Lately, Wisconsin has been getting some decent weather hovering around 50 degrees. A heat wave for us, Wisconsinites. Yesterday the Historic Third Ward kicked off its spring gallery night & day, which spreads throughout four areas: Around Town, East Town, Historic Third Ward,, and Walker’s Point. Over 50 venues hosted exhibitions and events that the community can engage in. With so many great exhibitions, you have to be selective as to how to manage your time in 4 hours (5 – 9 pm) on a Friday Night. But, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. There is always the following day to view art in peace, at your own pace, and not worry if you are going to bump into someone by accident or say excuse me as you stroll through the gallery. Either way, this event is a jam-packed art experience full of art, people, socializing, drinking, networking, and catching up with ‘ol friends.
This time around I went to Milwaukee with artists Dale Knaak and Sara Willadsen, the Sheboygan Krew. It isn’t what we are called, but it sure is fun to say. To maximize our time an itinerary was created. The best way to maneuver this is to focus on an area that has the most exhibitions. In this case, our first stop was at the Historic Third Ward. We stopped at Tory Folliard Gallery to see Chicago-based artist, Laurie Hogan‘s solo exhibition titled, “Folklore”, and Milwaukee-based artist, Peter Gehrig‘s solo show titled, “Sitting Still”. The next stop was the Marshall Building to see Kim Storage‘s new gallery, Kim Storage Gallery. This was Storage’s grand opening featuring the works of represented artists in “The Beginning Is Always Today”. Followed by a stop at the Portrait Society Gallery to see the exhibition, “Oscar Gruber: 400 Portraits from the Art Students League.” Before we left the Historic Third Ward, our last stop was MARN ART + CULTURE HUB to see the “2023-2024 MARN Mentorship Exhibition”. The last stop of the evening was Var Gallery‘s “30x30x30” exhibition.
I would highly recommend putting this event on your calendar. The next Milwaukee Gallery Night & Day is July 19 & 20, 2024.
Here is a snapshot of the evening.
