Wausau, Wisconsin – The Caroline S. Mark Gallery is currently displaying the third edition of Historic Artspective. On display in the Vault Gallery is a solo exhibit by Robert Martin – Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude.
The CVA is proud to display Wisconsin-born artist Robert Martin’s solo exhibition in the Vault Gallery. In Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude, Robert revisits the rural landscape they grew up in. This homecoming imagines queer futures while honoring a rooted past by permitting these stories to coexist in one plane. Using a layered combination of rural aesthetics, queer historical references, inherited ephemera, personal imagery, and memory, Robert tells their story. Curator Madison Hager reflects on Martin’s work, stating, “Through ‘Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude, ‘ Robert Martin reclaims the rural Wisconsin landscape as a space where queer narratives flourish. It’s so important for queer individuals and allies to witness their stories honored and amplified in this way, fostering a sense of connection to place.”
Historic Artspective displayed in the Caroline S. Mark Gallery invites viewers to explore their past, connect to their history, and share their story. This exhibit features a selection of unassuming artifacts from the Marathon County Historical Society Collection. Regional artists were invited to create a work of art in their respective medium in response to a historic item. Explore the history of Marathon County’s past and be inspired by its present. Executive Director Tiffany Rodriguez-Lee emphasizes the welcoming nature of the event, stating, “Our receptions are always free and open to the public, offering an opportunity to experience these compelling exhibitions firsthand. Guests can engage with the artists, connect, and explore unique finds in the CVA Shop. We warmly invite everyone to join us in celebrating our talented artists and vibrant creative community.”
The CVA gratefully acknowledges the Marathon County Historical Society for its partnership with Historic Artspective and extends its sincere appreciation to sponsors: Wausau Homes, for their ongoing support of the Caroline S. Mark Gallery, and the Eye Clinic of Wisconsin, for sponsoring the Historic Artspective exhibition.
