In 2010, artist and curator Frank Juárez, organized a group exhibition titled, “Indiana Green,” in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The exhibition was his way of saying thank you to artists who supported his journey as an artist. What was supposed to be a one-time exhibition slowly grew with interest in wanting to be a part of it again. Although there was a bit of hesitation, he decided to organize another one the following year. This led to 5th, 10th, and 15th anniversaries, featuring over 90 artists.
The Indiana Green Invitational is an annual group exhibition, which features contemporary artworks by artists living and working in the Midwest. Since 2017, the Indiana Green Invitational has traveled throughout Wisconsin annually, featuring a new roster of artists working in diverse media, genres, artistic processes, and narratives. This curated exhibition features significant contemporary works being created in today’s regional contemporary art landscape, bringing new voices into the conversation.
In 2023, Frank developed a partnership with the John Michael Kohler Arts Center (JMKAC) to design programming centered on providing institutional support for underrepresented Wisconsin emerging artists. This resulted in a program that provides them the space to talk about their art, work with a preparator, engage with curators, and the community. As a result of this emerging artists program, the impact is felt over a period of time when there is ongoing support, care, communication, and opportunity. The 2025 Indiana Green Invitational highlights 7 emerging artists from the 2023 and 2024 emerging artist programs.

Photos (2010 – 2023)
Today’s contemporary art landscape continues to change. We often wonder if documenting artists, studios, artworks, and exhibitions is a thing of the past, now that everything is accessible via the push of a button on our smartphones. It has been quite the journey seeing the evolution of these artists’ artworks continue to explore new ground, ideas, processes, and investigations.

Why Indiana Green?
The name Indiana Green originated from the 2010 inaugural exhibition. Indiana refers to the street that the venue was located on – Indiana Avenue. Green refers to the exhibition space that hosted it, Greenseed Studio and by happenstance the establishment that we went to after the reception was called the Green Room Pub. This exhibition was organized and curated by artist, Frank Juárez.
