On May 15, 2025, as part of the celebration of the 75th year of the Rahr-West Art Museum, the museum offers a day of programming in honor of the gem of our collection, Birch and Pine No. 2 by Georgia O’Keeffe. The painting was completed one hundred years ago, in 1925, and has been a part of our collection since it was gifted in 1990 by Mrs. John D. West.

Tea in the Mansion, 1:30 – 3:00 pm

This ticketed tea in the Vilas-Rahr Mansion is hosted by the Friends of the Rahr-West Art Museum and includes priority seating for the Art of Conversation lecture, which follows. Tickets are $25 for Museum Members and $35 for non-members. Due to limited seating, reservations must be made by May 5 at the Museum Front Desk or by calling (920) 686-3090.

Art of Conversation with P.D. Young, 3:00 – 4:00 pm

Young is an art historian, educator, and photographer with a knack for drawing unexpected connections across disciplines. He holds an M.A. in Modern Art History from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and spent over a decade as an in-demand gallery lecturer at the Art Institute of Chicago. Ribbon Cutting with the Chamber of Manitowoc County

These events align with the current exhibit, 100 Years of Birch and Pine No 2, which continues at the Museum through November 2, 2025. This exhibit offers awareness of the context of the painting and how it was acquired by Mrs. John D. West for the museum shortly before her death.

The Rahr-West Art Museum is admission-free. Find hours and visitor information at rahrwestartmuseum.org. The Rahr-West Art Museum is a department of the City of Manitowoc.
