Upcoming: Art Slam Manitowoc Event coming this fall

Manitowoc Art Slam Opening Reception for Artists and Donors, a private event, kicks off Art Slam on Friday, September 14th in the Riverview Room at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum. The event will feature keynote speaker Katie Ries; as well as music, drinks, light snacks and artist registration. Katie Ries is an Assistant Professor of Art at St. Norbert College and her work can be found in private and public collections throughout the US. Information Packets for participants will be distributed at the reception. Packets will include Art Slam rules, a map of the downtown Manitowoc area,  local business and hotel information, coupons, a schedule of area happenings, and a list of sponsors/donors. Doors open at 6pm.

Saturday, September 15 and 16 are Artist Work Days. Artists will be creating art in their chosen location around the downtown area. Hours for Working Artists are: Saturday 9am – 5pm and Sunday 9am – 4pm. The public is encouraged to come out and watch the creative process in action. Saturday events include ArtenLunch, an opportunity for the public to brown bag their lunch and join artists at the Manitowoc Public Library, in the Balansky Room from noon to 1:30pm. The Library will also be hosting “Land Scouting” with Katie Ries; a family event featuring creativity and the foundations of land stewardship. The art and fun continue into Saturday evening at Kathie’s Stage Door Pub which is hosting Poetry Slam from 6pm to 8pm. This event features local poets reading their own work, as well as an “Open Mic” invitation for non-registered poets to read.

The weekend wraps up after the Artist Work Day on Sunday the 16th when artists turn in their work at the Rahr West Art Museum, from 4pm to 6pm.

The Public Awards Celebration and Exhibition Opening for Art Slam is Friday, September 21st at the Rahr-West Art Museum from 6 to 8pm. Exhibition of Works created during Art Slam will be on view. Three awards for work created during Art Slam will be announced, and the public is welcome to this event.
