December’s Social Club Gathering at UW-Milwaukee Union Cinema. 12/7, 5pm.

This week’s featured artist is Eric Koester. - - - Follow Eric at @eric_t_koester - - - Eric Koester’s work combines pop imagery to express a perspective on social issues. It is a glimpse backward with historical imagery with modern day sensibilities to build a bridge between commercial nostalgia and American contemporary issues. His vision is to create a symbolic landscape of a cultural wasteland reflecting various turmoils bubbling below the cultural surface. The conflict of humankind, nature and the manipulations of our world and food chain are prominent subjects. Memories serve as signposts. He utilizes saccharine colors to reference childlike sensibilities allowing the audience to confront the tensions expressed in graphic symbols. Eric’s approach to making an art begins with collaging images and then altering images with paint and sketches. - - - Eric Koester is a regional visual artist that has spent his life making art. Beginning at an early age he worked on Operas and Musicals building, painting and designing scenery with his family for Music Under the Stars. He has earned a BA from UW- Stout and he studied Graphic Design at the FH in Hildesheim, Germany. He moved to Berlin, Germany working in Film, Television and art for ten years. Eric Koester’s sculptures, paintings, collage and screen prints have been shown both regionally and internationally. - - - Images courtesy of the artist
