About Ascent:

Concepted in 2018 and completed in 2022, Ascent set a world record as the world’s tallest mass timber building and reframed what is possible in the world of construction and design. The project utilizes mass timber as the structural system for the 7th through 25th floors and has drawn international acclaim for its innovative design, technological precision, and trailblazing sustainability. Mentioned in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Nightly News with Lester Holt, NPR, Vox, PBS News Hour, The Chicago Tribune, Fast Company, Engineering News Record, and the subject of the documentary series Engineering the Future.

Our Values & Culture:

Ascent and its developer and property manager, New Land Enterprises, believe that cities thrive when they are diverse, walkable, and culturally vibrant. We strive to create joy-inducing experiences within the built environment, embrace innovation, and are passionate about Milwaukee.

RFP Details:

Ascent has issued an RFP for our Artist in Residence program to enrich the lives of our residents through the arts, support the local arts economy, and provide opportunities for community engagement in downtown Milwaukee and the Greater Milwaukee area.

The artist will provide completed work to display in six previously specified areas of the building and will utilize the 25th floor open studio space to produce new work during the timeline of the residency program. All work displayed in the building will be insured through the building’s insurance policy, and locking cabinets and storage areas will be provided to the artist to keep materials secure. The studio space is also under video surveillance to ensure security of the work outside of studio hours.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for biophilic design, innovation, environmental sustainability, wood materials, and/or nature in general. Ascent and the review committee are open to visual artists working in painting, drawing, sculpture, digital arts, photography, and more. Within the proposal, the committee hopes to see how the vision will come to life and connect with the Ascent story.

Proposals should include a plan for dissemination of the work process and finished projects through the use of social media, events, and traditional media relations.

Funding for this project is provided by Ascent.
