Milwaukee, Wisconsin – The LILY PAD| WEST is pleased to announce a new exhibition. Ton Dubbeldam invites you to enter his world of light and color, blending the line between figuration and abstraction in a song and dance that ignites the senses.

Born in 1957 to an artistic family in the small town of Schoonhoven, Holland, Ton Dubbeldam has spent his life experimenting with style and technique, resulting in his effortless ability to combine realism, impressionism, pointillism, and luminism in his paintings. Taking early inspiration from Impressionist masters like Van Gogh, Degas, Monet, and Klimt, Dubbeldam has combined elements from multiple genres in his work to create atmospheric impressions of nature.

Using very high or very low horizon lines, Dubbeldam suggests unique perspectives, as if through the eyes of a child, that feel both novel and nostalgic at the same time. Through these extreme horizon lines, the water and sky become strongly accented, the space often further divided through the juxtaposition of flat color and energetic pointillist marks. The vibration of the abstracted color creates a sense of time and movement, while the figurative elements anchor us within the work. The fusion of these two polarities, figuration and abstraction, is the result of Dubbeldam’s 30-year journey in experimentation as an artist.
