Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Sculpture Milwaukee announced today the full roster of exhibiting artists for their seventh annual exhibition, Actual Fractals, Act I, curated by local artist and gallerist John Riepenhoff. The exhibition will be on view from June 30th, 2023 – October 2024.
Of the exhibition John Riepenhoff says:
“There are many Milwaukees within this single city. While our parts can appear, and be, disjointed, there are also patterns that play out in our experiences across communities, generations, and public and private spaces, connecting us intricately.
Actual Fractals, Act I brings together the work of seven distinguished artists from diverse backgrounds whose sculptures touch on concerns, pastimes, and pleasures that shape contemporary life, here and in the world beyond. The exhibition features artworks in a range of mediums that can rescale our expectations of contemporary sculpture. They also help us to see what we share by existing in the same time and place—and to see each other with delight and renewed empathy.”

Actual Fractals, Act I can be viewed alongside Sculpture Milwaukee’s 2022-23 exhibition, Nature Doesn’t Know About Us, curated by internationally-renowned artist Ugo Rondinone and on exhibition through October 2023.

John Riepenhoff (b. 1982, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, lives and works in Milwaukee) received a BFA from the Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Riepenhoff owns The Green Gallery, Milwaukee, runs The Open Fund and the Beer Endowment, organized Milwaukee International and Dark Fairs, is an inventor of artistic platforms for the expression of others and food ideator. His exhibitions and curatorial projects have been presented at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Marlborough, & Broadway Gallery, New York; Tate Modern, London; Crystal Bridges, & Good Weather, Arkansas; Misako & Rosen, Tokyo; 356 Mission Rd, Various Small Fires, & Night Gallery, Los Angeles; La Maison de Rendez-Vous, Brussels; Minneapolis Institute of Art, MN; Atlanta Contemporary, Atlanta; Poor Farm, Lynden Sculpture Garden, The Suburban, & John Michael Kohler Art Preserve, Wisconsin.
